The walk to D Amelia Lighthouse, Sao Vicente, Cape Verde
On a hiking trip in São Vicente, Cape Verde, a must-do trail is the one leading to the D. Amélia Lighthouse.
The trail starts near São Pedro, the local fishing community.
São Pedro is the village one we see through the plane’s window when it lands at Cesária Évora Airport in São Vicente.
The peaceful fishing people from the village give a curious look to those coming here to walk.
This idyllic scenario is these fishermen’s daily life, is only natural the place seem banal to them.
However, for those who come here, like us, to spend a day, everything is extraordinary.
We take the direction of the trail, near the hotel, on the opposite end of the beach.
The beach invites us to walk along the shore where the sand is harder, and the landscape view is at its peak of beauty.
The beach hotel/resort, Foya Branca, is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers.
Boards on the doorstep, sails, and wings cruising the waters and sky are frequent here.
The trail itself starts right after the hotel towards the lighthouse, which can be seen from the beach.
I tried to investigate on the internet about the Lighthouse D. Amelia to share here, but there is not much information available.
The good old Wikipedia gave me a hand, look here.
The trail is evident, so I could focus more on photography.
My finger could not stop shooting.
One panoramic photo after the other and I couldn’t stop damning the harsh light.
The sun was right over my head, making photography very difficult.
However, that was the moment I had to shoot, and I enjoyed every minute.
It is a short walk, 7 km without relevant elevation gain, and mixed terrain in-between dirt trail and sandy beach.
A delightful walk.
